OM Austria, OM Switzerland and OM Germany have got together in Germany for a joint conference for the first time in a number of years. It was inspiring to get to know Jesus-followers who are working in the same or similar field/ministry. Sharing time, meals, fun and struggles was for all of us a great encouragement. We came back to Austria, being refreshed.

One of my highlights during the time in Germany was to unexpectedly get connected with Mr. V from Sportslink https://www.sportslink.info/, I will not go into details, but as their motto says: Transforming lives and communities in and through sports, they have been engaged in impactful works for the Kingdom of God throughout the world.

Mr. V's love for Jesus and people is palpable, and he is a great example for any Jesus-loving sports person. I am excited to be trained under Sportslink. "I look forward to our ongoing friendship and how we can best support you." wrote Mr, V, and gave me a lot of sports gears to use in Austria.

It's currently Ramadan. Ramadan is a month of fasting (from sunrise to sunset, till 20 April this year) in the Muslim world. According to Muslim friends, it's a month of celebration and happiness. During the day they pray, abstaining from food, drink, etc. The fast is broken at sunset with a meal called iftar, often shared among family and friends. It's believed that a Muslim who fasts Ramadan can expect Allah's reward and have their past sins erased and accumulate points for Jannah, the paradise/heaven.

Though it may be a time of “happiness” for Muslims, the spiritual atmosphere intensifies. Some hungry and thirsty Muslims, especially on a hot day and later afternoon, become inpatient and irritated, and cause quarrels and accidents. Emergency hospitals become busy with overeaten Ramadan participants in the middle of the night. However, during Ramadan, so many Christians all over the globe regularly and passionately also pray for Muslims, and the Holy Spirit powerfully works and reveals the Savior Jesus to them.

With both hands full of stuff from Sportslink, I knocked the door of the refugee house. I handed the sports shirts to my refugee friends with whom I had got connected through soccer. They were full of joy and thankfulness to Sportslink, and spontaneously invited me to iftar, as they broke the fast that day. The recite of the Quran was echoing in the house and I was led to a room.

Middle Easterners were all cracking in laughter, as they saw the Japanese eating (clumsily) with my right hand like one of them (refer to the short video). It seemed rather surprising for Muslims to learn that we, Jesus-followers also fast, although our fast is unlike theirs. One guy took and posted the video on the social media, and his Muslim friends are now inviting me to more iftars (lol). After the iftar, one refugee who was visiting the house that day from another asylum home, whom I'd just got to know an hour ago, said that he wants to cut my hair to show gratitude (?) or my self-cut hair was just terrible, so I let him do it (Sachi watched the video later and was laughing at the spontaneous hair-cut).

I lost my (idolatry) passion for soccer or any sports, when I wanted to end my life at the age of 18, and I can now easily imagine my life without soccer. Nevertheless, the Lord is now somehow using my experiences on the soccer field for His Kingdom. In Him and for Him, none of our experiences (good or bad) is wasted, when we dwell in and with Jesus.

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28

We want to witness lives and communities transformed by the love and truth of Jesus Christ here in Austria and where you are, for the glory of our Lord, because we know that not only did God’s only begotten Son die for us and for them for our sins, but He is also risen!

OM オーストリア、OM スイス、OM ドイツは、数十年ぶりに合同カンファレンスを開き、ドイツで集いました。 似たような分野・ミニストリーに従事しているイエスの弟子・同労者と知り合うのはインスピレーションが刺激される経験です。共に時間、食事、喜びや苦労を分かち合うことは、私たち全員にとって大きな励みとなりました。みんなリフレッシュして帰路につきました。

ドイツ滞在中のハイライトの一つは、Sportslink (スポーツリンク) https://www.sportslink.info/ のVさんと思いがけず知り合えたことです。詳細には触れませんが、「スポーツを通じて、人々の人生とコミュニティーを変革する」という彼らのモットーにあるように、Sportslinkは世界中で神の御国のために影響力のある活動に取り組んでいます。

Vさんのイエスさまと人々への愛は明白で、主を愛するスポーツ選手にとって素晴らしい模範です。Sportslinkの下で指導を受けれることを楽しみにしています。Vさんは「私たちの継続的な友情と、Sportslinkがどのようにあなたがたの宣教活動をサポートできるか楽しみにしています」とメッセージをくれ、多くのスポーツ用品を提供してくれました。

現在はラマダン期間。ラマダンとは、イスラム教の世界での断食月（日の出から日没まで、今年は4月20日まで）を指します。ムスリムの友人によると、ラマダンはお祝いの月だそうです。日中、彼らは祈り、食べ物や飲み物などを断ちます。断食は日没時にイフタールと呼ばれる食事で破られ、家族や友人と食を囲みます。ラマダンに断食するイスラム教徒は、アッラー（イスラム教の神）からの報酬が期待でき、過去の罪を消し去られ、ジャンナ（パラダイス・天国）へのポイントを積むことができると信じられています。

イスラム教徒にとっては“ハッピー“な時間かもしれませんが、霊的な雰囲気はピリピリしてきます。空腹と喉の渇きを覚えるイスラム教徒は、特に暑い日や午後遅くに、短気でイライラして喧嘩したり、事故を起こす人もいます。救急病院は深夜、食べ過ぎで搬送されてくるラマダン参加者に頭を抱えます。しかし、そんなラマダンの間、世界中の多くのクリスチャンがイスラム教徒のために定期的かつ熱心に祈り、聖霊さまが力強く働き、彼らに救い主イエスを明らかにしてくださっています。

Sportslinkからもらった荷物を両手いっぱいに抱えて、難民ハウスのドアをノックしました。サッカーを通じて知り合った難民の友人たちにスポーツシャツをプレゼントするためです。彼らは喜びとSportslinkへの感謝でいっぱい、その日の断食を終えるイフタールの食事に急きょ招待してくれました。コーランの朗誦が家中に響く中、僕は部屋に通されました。

中東の友人たちは、日本人が右手でぎこちなく食事をしているのを見て、大笑い（短いビデオ参照）。クリスチャンも断食をすると知り（私たちの断食は彼らの断食とは異なりますが）、ムスリムはかなり驚いているようでした。一人の友人がビデオを撮ってソーシャル・メディアに投稿したところ、彼の友人たちが僕を他のイフタールにも招待してくれることになりました（笑）。イフタールの後、1時間前に知り合ったばかりの、別の難民ハウスから遊びにきていたある青年が、僕の髪を切りたいとオファーしてくれました。お礼を表すためか、ただ単に僕が自分で切ったヘヤースタイルがひどかったためかわかりませんが（笑）、髪を切ってもらうことにしました（さちは後でビデオを見て、急な散髪に笑っていました）。

18歳で人生を終わらせたいと思ったとき、サッカーへの（偶像崇拝的な）情熱を失いました。サッカーのない生活は今簡単に想像できます。にもかかわらず、主は今、僕がサッカーから得た経験を御国のために活用してくださっています。私たちがイエスさまの内に、主と共に生きるとき、私たちの経験は（良いことも悪いことも）無駄にならないことを改めて体験しています。

「 神を愛する人々、すなわち、神のご計画に従って召された人々のためには、神がすべてのことを働かせて益としてくださることを私たちは知っています。」 ローマ8:28

主の栄光のために、イエス・キリストの愛と真理によって人々の人生とコミュニティーが変革することの証人になりたい。ここオーストリアで、そして皆さんのいる場所で。御子は、私たちだけでなく、救い主イエスをまだ知らない彼らのためにも死なれ、よみがえってくださったのですから！
