Temporary homecoming to Japan / 一時帰国

After the last chemotherapy, the side effects appeared strongly for about two weeks. Nevertheless, we were able to celebrate the combined celebration of Sachi's accomplishment and Tabea and Liana's birthdays. Last April, when Lior and I had Covid, Tabea's parents graciously let Sachi and Liana stay in their house, so that Sachi could complete the radiation therapy and continue on the chemotherapy without being infected.
Tabea is a radiological technician at Sachi's hospital and the Lord has used her countless times to rescue Sachi and our family. So, we felt privileged to organize a little birthday celebration for Tabea and thank all her family members for their friendship in the Lord.
Even though our love and appreciation for Austria increases daily, we also miss friends and families in our homeland. Going to visit Japan, however, hasn't been possible till now. We longed for the visit this year, but struggled to extend our visa/Austria stay permit, because Sachi, due to treatments, couldn't set the A2 German exam required for the one-year visa extension. If we leave for Japan without a legitimate permit, we cannot enter Austria again.
On 4 January, Sachi went to have an interview with the medical doctor at the immigration office, whether she could receive an extended deadline for passing the German exam and get her/our one-year visa issued. Although the female doctor showed understanding and sympathy, the office told us that the decision-making would take up to 6 months. Because of Lior's school, the only suitable time we could visit Japan is during his summer holiday, but the immigration office's response made it risky for us to purchase a flight ticket, so we didn't buy it. (In the meantime, the flight ticket was becoming more and more expensive.)
The immigration office is usually unfriendly regardless of where it is in the world, but I recently collected courage to go ask the office to speed up the procedures. Unlike my expectation, however, the normally-grumpy staff was somewhat helpful and even found out that Sachi's visa was already on the way!?!? Some days later, the visa was in Sachi's hands! In fact, to our very surprise, we have all got the three-year valid visa instead of one year, with Sachi's A2 German exam exempted! Praise Jesus!! (Now Sachi only needs to pass B1, the next higher-level exam at the end of three years to apply for our next visa.)
As we got the long-waited visa, we were able to purchase a suitable flight ticket! We are going to visit Japan from 14 July to 5 September. We will also plan to visit South Korean from 28 to 31 July, as a church kindly welcomes us. We are very happy and excited to visit our friends and families!
But the joy and excitement didn't stop there. The Lord had another surprise for us - Tabea is also coming with us to Japan and South Korea! She will be in Asia from 14 July for about 2 weeks. We want her to enjoy her first Asia experience. We thank God that we can visit friends and churches with her!
Ministry update:
There is an increasing number of asylum seekers coming to stay in our small town and surrounding villages. The Building Bridges Team at OM has officially decided to support the Bible Study/prayer group that the Lord had started at the refugee home in our town. Gernot, my coworker and friend has already joined us twice so far to strengthen the group. May Lord Jesus draw more refugees and asylum seekers, especially Muslims to the group.
最後の抗がん剤投与の後、約2週間副作用が強く現れましたが、サチの功績とタベアとリアナの誕生日を合わせてみんなでお祝いすることができました。昨年の4月、リオウと僕がコロナに罹患したとき、タベアのご両親がサチとリアナが避難できるよう、サチが感染することなく放射線治療を完了、抗がん剤治療を継続できるように、妻子を家に泊まらせてくれました。
タベアはサチの病院の放射線技術者で、主は彼女を用いて、サチや私たち家族を数え切れないほど救ってくださいました。ですから、ささやかながらタベアの誕生日を共にお祝いすることができて、彼女の家族全員に感謝を表すことができて、とても嬉しかったです。
オーストリアへの感謝と愛は日に日に増していますが、日本の友人や家族が恋しく感じることはしばしばあります。しかしながら、一時帰国は今まで難しかったのです。今年こその訪問を願っていましたが、ビザ・オーストリア滞在許可の延長に苦戦しました。治療のため、サチは1年間のビザ延長に必要なA2ドイツ語試験を受けることができなかったからです。有効な滞在許可・ビザなしに日本へ一旦出国すると、オーストリアに再び入国することはできません。
1月4日、サチは入国管理局の医師の面接を受け、ドイツ語試験受験延期およびビザ1年延長の申請を行いました。医師は理解と共感を示してくださったものの、決断とビザ発給には最大6か月かかるとのことでした。リオウの学校のため、日本に一時帰国できる唯一適切な時期は彼の夏休み中ですが、入国管理局の対応により、航空券を購入するのはリスクが高いと判断し、購入していませんでした。（その間にも航空券の値段はどんどん上がっていきます。。。）
入国管理局の対応は、世界中どこでも無愛想なことが多いのですが、気が乗らない自分に喝を入れ、サチのビザの手続きを早めてくれるよう、先日、入国管理局にお願いしに行きました。しかし予想とは異なり、いつも不機嫌なスタッフはやや親切で、サチのビザはもうすぐ届く!?!?と教えてくれました。数日後、ビザはサチの手中に届きました。さらにびっくり仰天したのは、1年のビザ延長申請でしたが、今回私たち家族全員が取得したのは3年有効のビザで、サチのA2ドイツ語試験も免除になっていたことです！イエスさまをほめたたえます！！（3年ビザの終了時に、次のビザ取得のために、一つレベルの高いB1ドイツ語試験合格の必要があります。）
待ちに待ったビザが取れたので、最適な航空券を購入することができました！ 7月14日から9月5日まで日本に一時帰国する予定です。また、ソウルの教会が迎えてくれることになったので、7月28日から31日まで韓国も訪問する予定です。友人や家族と再会を心から楽しみにしています！
しかし、喜びと興奮はそれだけではありません。 主は別のサプライズも与えてくださいました − タベアも一緒に日本と韓国に来ることになりました！彼女は7月14日から約 2 週間、アジアに滞在します。初の日本滞在を楽しんでもらいたいです。彼女と一緒に友だちや教会訪問できることを主に感謝します！

私たちの住んでいる小さな町や周辺の村に滞在する亡命希望者の数が増えています。OMのBuilding Bridges（橋渡し）チームは、主が私たちの町の難民ハウスで始められたバイブルスタディ・祈りのグループを支援することを正式に決定してくれました。私たちの同僚であり友人であるギャーノットが、グループをサポートするためにミニストリーに参加してくれることになりました。主イエスさまが、より多くの難民と亡命希望者、特にイスラム教徒たちをグループに引き寄せくださいますように。
