Since last update, we have extensively traveled, and visited Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Seoul (South Korea). We have just left Aki’s hometown, Tottori and are going to Sachi’s family in Iwate, 1000km away from here.
The Lord has poured out some blessings and surprises on us during the travel, and here are some updates:
1. At Tokyo Light House church, we experienced wonderful welcoming. We had a welcoming lunch with church staff, meals with pastors’ families, relaxing time at the church guest room. At two church services, we testified to the Lord’s faithfulness, power of God’s Word and the work of the Holy Spirit. In the afternoon with a team from the church we left for Shibuya, the world-famous scramble crossing for evangelism.
2. From the current capital city, we took a Shinkansen, the bullet train to the former Japan’s capital, Kyoto. During our first official furlough, I really wanted to visit Alayne Madore in Kyoto for her years-long prayers and support. (The Australian lady was a former missionary to Japan, and together with her Japanese husband they started a company that mediated study-abroad for Japanese. God used her and their company to send me to Christchurch, New Zealand where the suicidal and teenage Aki encountered the living Christ.)
However, shortly before our furlough, I learned that Alayne had suddenly gone to be with the Lord. Despite tremendous shock, I still wanted to visit her husband, the problem was however, I didn’t have his contact details.
More than 20 years ago my parents took me to their apartment once, and I evoked my memory to find the way. Shortly before 9 P.M., I found myself in front of the apartment entrance. The husband opened the door, but seemed perplexed and surprised by the sudden visitor. I introduced myself, and to my surprise he took me in. We sat at the dining table, I was a bit nervous in front of the dignified Japanese older man.
For about a good one hour we talked and prayed at the end with tears. He told me, Alayne had sent out students to overseas with prayers that they would encounter Jesus Christ. I was one of the fruits of her prayers and dedication for the Kingdom of God. The husband said, she had prayed and cared for me and our family, as we now live for the same purpose from heaven. We have received the baton of the Gospel and will run the race Alayne and heroes of faith have completed.
3. From Kyoto, we moved to Osaka where we had a privilege of meeting Esther and her husband. We had understood that she was very busy and wouldn’t be able to make time during our short stay in Osaka, but the Lord gave us a blessing of reunion.
Esther was the oncologist whom we often contacted for advice, while going through the cancer diagnosis, decision-making and treatments in Austria. It was an indescribably enormous help for us to be able to ask things in our mother tongue, when our German ability and medical knowledge was very low.
When I saw Sachi and Esther hugging with tears, I was full of thankfulness for everything God has done.
4. From the airport in Osaka, we flew to South Korea where we reunited with Gahee, a former OM Austria coworker and friend, as well as Korean Christian brothers and sisters. We visited Our Life Church and had a wonderful and blessed time of fellowship. It was also touching to meet people for the first time who prayed for Sachi and wrote letters of encouragement to our family in Austria.
One highlight is that due to some plan changes, we were able to spontaneously arrange a meeting with Jihee, a wonderful believer, after 20 years!! In New Zealand, we were once in the same class at the English language school, and she was like a Nuna (an older sister in Korean) for me. I was a teenager alone in a foreign land, but many Hyungs (older brothers in Korean) and Nunas like Jihee helped me.
Another highlight is that we reunited with Mr. Kim and his wife. At our first deputation to Korea, we got to know the couple, and the Lord has blessed our relationship. When Lior was refused to get on board for our flight back to Japan last time, due to influenza, Mr. Kim drove all the way from Seoul to pick us up at the Incheon airport and took care of us. The couple told us that they would visit us in Austria next year. We thank the Lord Jesus for our Korean brothers and sisters.
5. Upon returning to Tokyo, we said Good Bye to Tabea, and she flew back to Austria. Our kids couldn’t stop crying and we missed her, but we thank God that we could travel together in Japan and Korea , and are looking forward to meeting her again next month in Austria!
Alayne visited us in New Zealand in 2019/アレーンさんは2019年にニュージーランドまで訪ねに来てくれました。
前回のアップデートの後、私たちは東京、京都、大阪、ソウル（韓国）へと向かいました。今はアキの実家の鳥取を発ち、1000キロ離れた岩手のサチの実家に向けて移動しています。これまでの旅の間、主は私たちに祝福と驚きを注いでくださいました。いくつかをお分かちします。
1. 東京ライトハウスチャーチで、私たちは身に余る素晴らしい歓迎を受けました。教会スタッフの皆さんとの歓迎ランチ、牧師先生のご家族との食事、教会のゲストルームでリラックスの時間を過ごさせていただきました。尊敬する牧師先生たちともオーストリアの現状について、また個人的な話しもさせていただき、励ましと祝福の数日を過ごすことができました。日曜日の二回の礼拝で、主の忠実さ、神の御言葉の力、聖霊の働きについての証しをさせていただき、礼拝の後、教会のチームとともに、渋谷のスクランブル交差点での伝道へ出かけました。
2. 東京から新幹線に乗り、京都に向かいました。京都訪問の目的の一つは、宣教師としての初めての正式な一時帰国中、アレーン・マドレーさんに、何年にもにわたる祈りと支援に対する心からの感謝を伝えたいと思っていたからです。（このオーストラリア人女性は日本への元宣教師で、日本人のご主人とともに留学斡旋会社を設立せれました。神さまは彼女とその会社を用いて、僕をニュージーランドのクライストチャーチに送ってくださいました。その場所で、自殺願望のある10代の僕は生けるキリストに出会ったのです。）
しかし、少し前に、アレーンさんが急に召天されていたことを知りました。 大きなショックを受け、それでも彼女のご主人に会いに行きたいと思っていました。しかし、ご主人の連絡先がわからないのです。
20年以上前、留学前に両親に連れられて彼らのアパート行った、そのときの記憶を呼び起こしながら何とか道を見つけました。 午後9時前、一人エントランス・ドアの前に着きます。ご主人はドアを開けてくださいましたが、、突然の訪問者に少し戸惑い、驚いた様子。玄関で簡潔に自己紹介と挨拶をし、お礼をお伝えして引き返そうとすると、驚いたことにご主人は僕をお家の中に入れてくださいました。ダイニングテーブルに通されましたが、威厳のある年配の男性を前に少し緊張してしまいます。でも、約1時間、私たちは近況を分かち合い、最後には涙を流しながら祈りました。 アレーンさんは自身が送り出した生徒たちが留学先でイエス・キリストに出会うことができるようにと祈りを持って神の御国のために働いていたそうです。 僕も彼女の祈りと献身に対する主からの答えの一人です。アレーンさんは、生前、同じ神さまの目的のために仕えている私たち家族を気遣ってくれていた、とご主人が教えてくださいました。私たちは福音のバトンを受け取り、アレーンさんや信仰の英雄たちが走り抜いたレースを走りきる者でありたいと思います。
3.次に京都から大阪まで移動し、そこでエステルさんと彼女のご主人に会う機会に恵まれました。 彼女がとても多忙で、大阪での短い滞在の間に会うことはできないだろうと思っていたのですが、主は私たちに再会の祝福を与えてくださいました。
エステルさんは、私たち夫婦がオーストリアでがんの診断を受け、意思および治療方針決定する際、副作用なので治療がうまくいかない時、私たちがアドバイスを求めて頻繁に連絡を取っていた腫瘍専門医です。ドイツ語の能力も医学の知識も非常に低かった私たちにとって、母国語で質問できたことは、言葉では言い表せないほど大きな助けとなりました。 サチとエステルさんが涙を流しながら抱き合っているのを見ながら、神さまがしてくださったことすべてに感謝の気持ちでいっぱいでした。
4.大阪から韓国に飛び、そこでOMオーストリアの同僚であるガヒーさん、韓国人クリスチャンの兄弟姉妹たちと再会しました。Our Life Churchを訪問し、素晴らしく祝福された交わりの時間を過ごしました。また、サチのために祈り、オーストリアの私たちの家族に励ましの手紙を書いてくれた人々に初めてお会いしたことも感謝、教会に直接お礼をお伝えすることができて本当に良かったです。
ハイライトの一つは、予定が少し変更になったので、20年ぶりに素晴らしい信仰者、ジヒさんと会うことができたことです！ニュージーランドの語学学校の同じクラスで学んだ彼女は僕にとってヌナ（韓国語でお姉さんの意味）のような存在でした。初めて一人での海外生活、何もわからない10代の僕は多くのヒョン（韓国語でお兄さんの意味）やジヒのようなヌナたちに助けてもらいました。
もう一つのハイライトは、キム氏ご夫妻と再会できたことです。 最初の韓国デピュテーション時、私たちはご夫妻と知り合い、主は私たちの関係を祝福してくださいました。 リオウがインフルエンザのため帰国便への搭乗を拒否されたとき、キムさんははるばるソウルから車で仁川空港まで迎えに来て、面倒を見てくださいました。ご夫妻は、来年オーストリアまで私たちを訪ねてくださるそうです。韓国の兄弟姉妹ゆえに、主イエスさまに感謝をお捧げします。
5. 東京に戻ると、私たちはタベアに別れを告げ、オーストリアへの帰国便に乗る彼女を見送りました。子供たちは涙を止めることができず、タベアが帰って寂しいですが、日本と韓国を一緒に旅行できたことを神さまに感謝し、来月オーストリアで彼女に再会するのを楽しみにしています。
