Since our last update and newsletter, some time has passed and a number of things have occurred. Some of the stories cannot be published online and we will include them in our next quarterly newsletter.

This update shares two highlights.

The first is the Leadership Matters Course (LMC) Aki participated in in Albania. https://wetrainleaders.org/what-is-lmc/ The course is run by a renowned Christian organization, International Training Alliance (ITA) that has held so far about 130 LMCs in over 40 nations. Approximately 4,000 LMC graduates come from 190 different organizations from around the world.

LMC is a 2 week-long intensive course focused on developing basic leadership skills for Christian workers in diverse cultures around the world.

The focus was on 8 areas; Relationship Skills, Communication Skills, Management Skills, Public Relations Skills, Motivational Skills, Creative Thinking and Decision-Making, Training Skills, Life Management.

The course itself was well-designed and practical, but what blessed me the most was going through the course together with other leaders; pastors, engineers, financial managers, community developers, office managers, social workers, etc. from various countries.

Half way through the course, I developed an almost unbearable headache that didn’t go away despite strong pain killers. Spine, neck and shoulder pain also got worsened and I nearly gave up on the course. Facilitators’ prayers and participants’ encouragement, however, enabled me to push it till the end, and I am grateful I completed it.

I thank OM Austria for giving me the opportunity and I appreciate my wife for taking care of kids and home by herself for two weeks.

Another highlight was the family trip to Czech Republic. The average age of pastors in Japan is said to be between 60 and 70 years old, and an increasing number of Japanese churches are experiencing the absence of pastors. https://www.om.org/eng/countries/japan The situation is the same, if not even worse for Japanese churches outside of Japan.

Though it is not our current calling, we would like to support diaspora churches in Europe as much as our schedule allows. This time for the first time we went as a family to Prague. From the story of Lazarus, we learnt the sin of human beings, forgiveness and salvation of Jesus Christ and the hope of eternal life. It was very refreshing to be able to read the Bible, sing worship songs, fellowship in our mother tongue!

And now whenever I/we come back to Austria, hear the Austrian-German dialect, eat bread and drink coffee, that’s when we finally feel relieved and at ease.

前回のアップデートとニュースレターから少し時間が経ちましたが、その間色々な出来事がありました。ネット上では公開できないストーリーもありますので、次回の四半期ニュースレターに掲載する予定です。

今回のアップデートでは、2つのハイライトをご紹介します。

1つ目は、アキが東欧アルバニアで参加したリーダー養成コース、Leadership Matters Course (LMC)についてです。https://wetrainleaders.org/what-is-lmc/ これは、International Training Alliance (ITA)という、国際的に認知されているキリスト教団体が主催するトレーニングコースで、これまで世界40カ国以上で約130のLMCを開催しています。世界190以上の異なる団体から受講生が集い、延べ約4,000人のLMC卒業生を輩出しています。

LMCは、世界中の多様な文化圏で活動するクリスチャンワーカーのために設定された、基本的なリーダーシップスキルを養成する2週間の集中コースです。

焦点は、人間関係構築スキル、コミュニケーションスキル、マネジメントスキル、広報スキル、モチベーション向上スキル、創造的思考と意思決定、トレーニングスキル、ライフマネジメントの8つの分野です。

コース自体は綿密に設計され非常に実践的でしたが、僕個人的に最も大きな祝福だったのは、様々な国出身の牧師、エンジニア、会計士、コミュニティ開拓者、オフィスマネージャー、ソーシャルワーカーなど、多種多様な文化や職業を持つリーダーたちと共にコースを受講できたことです。

コース半ばで、耐え難いほどの頭痛に襲われ、強い鎮痛剤を服用しても治らず、背骨、首、肩の痛みも悪化し、コースの受講を諦めかけました。しかし、先生方やファシリテーターの方々の祈りと参加者の方々の励ましのおかげで、最後までやり遂げることができ、修了できたことに感謝しています。

この機会を与えてくださったOM Austriaに感謝し、2週間一人で家を守ってくれた妻にも感謝しています。

もう一つのハイライトは、チェコへの家族旅行です。日本の牧師の平均年齢は60歳から70歳と言われており、牧師不在の教会も増えています。https://www.om.org/eng/countries/japan 海外でも状況は変わりません。

海外日本人教会での奉仕は、今の私たちが主から受けている直接的な召命ではありませんが、スケジュールが許す限り、ヨーロッパのディアスポラ教会のサポートもしたいと思っています。今回は初めて家族でプラハに行きました。ラザロの物語から、人間の罪、イエス・キリストの赦しと救い、そして永遠の命への希望を共に学びました。母語で聖書を読み、賛美歌を歌い、交わりを深めることができる幸い、とてもリフレッシュされました！

そして今、毎回オーストリアに帰ってくる度に、オーストリア特有のドイツ語方言を聞き、パンを食べ、コーヒーを飲むと、ようやくホッとします。
